All information about the Chase Freedom Flex was collected independently by Slickdeals and has not been reviewed by the issuer.
This summer, select Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex℠ cardholders can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined quarterly spending on eligible purchases at gas stations and electric vehicle (EV) charging, as well as certain live entertainment options.
With the price of fuel creeping up during the summer travel season, this can be a handy way to offset some of your vacation costs. And while we've seen both Discover and Citi offer similar 5% back promotions for gas station purchases this year, Chase is the first issuer to extend its promotion to EV charging, too.
As for the “select live entertainment,” it appears to cover a fairly wide range of activities, including amusement parks, zoos, and sporting events. That said, notable exceptions include movie theaters, bowling alleys and tickets purchased through a hotel concierge or as part of a travel package.
How To Activate Offer
If you’re an eligible cardholder, you can activate bonus categories online or in the Chase app, then earn the elevated cash back from July 1, 2023 until September 14, 2023. And, as is typical with Chase Freedom Flex rewards, bonus points can even be earned retroactively (as long as you hit the September 14 deadline of course).
Tips to Get More Value From This Offer
Even if you don’t use gas stations or EV charging enough to justify the deal, there may be other ways to take advantage of this offer. For example, Slickdeals user u/Knightshade points out, “BTW for folks like me for whom gas station is otherwise useless, you might want to check what gift cards some of em sell—last time they had this category it acted as a backdoor extra 5x quarter for amazon and Uber for me because the local Sheetz sold amazon and Uber GCs... (among many other GCs like Lowes, Ebay, Apple, Xbox, etc)”.
Another popular savings strategy involves combining this offer with other live entertainment discounts. Slickdeals user u/ocspeakers shared their experience getting discounted Disney tickets using a similar offer in 2022, saying "Combine it with the CA Resident Ticket Offer for Disneyland and the per-day price for 3 days at Disneyland falls to as low as $79/day."
Thanks to Slickdeals user u/TirupatiS for turning us on to this great deal for eligible Chase Freedom cardholders.
