Earn a $100 Statement Credit after spending $1,000 in qualifying activities in the first 3 months of account opening

The AT&T Points Plus® Card from Citi, one of our partners, is a solid no-annual-fee card for existing AT&T customers who want to earn decent rewards on gas and groceries. The card has few perks, with the best being the ability to earn a modest statement credit toward your AT&T wireless bill, although the monthly spending threshold is quite high.

Best for Existing AT&T Customers Who Want to Earn Rewards and Statement Credits

At first glance, the AT&T Points Plus® Card from Citi (from our partner Citi) looks promising, especially for existing AT&T customers who want to be rewarded for brand loyalty. However, despite the name, the card offers few AT&T-brand benefits for customers. That doesn’t necessarily mean the AT&T Points Plus card offers little value, but it does mean it’s only right for select customers. At its core, it’s a decent everyday spending card with no annual fee that offers valuable gas and grocery spending rewards and the potential for up to $240 in annual AT&T statement credits.

Pros

  • No limit on points you can earn
  • No annual fee
  • Strong discounts for AT&T customers
  • Solid rewards on gas and groceries

Cons

  • Foreign transaction fee
  • No additional bonus rewards for AT&T purchases
  • Few card perks for non-AT&T customers
  • High monthly threshold required to earn AT&T statement credit

Card Highlights

The AT&T Points Plus card offers some solid benefits for existing AT&T customers. Some of the card highlights include:

  • 3X ThankYou Points at gas stations
  • 2X ThankYou Points at grocery stores, including grocery delivery services
  • 1X ThankYou Points on all other purchases
  • $100 statement credit after $1,000 in purchases in the first 3 months of account opening
  • Up to $240 in AT&T wireless bill statement credits annually
  • No annual fee

Sign-Up Bonus

The AT&T Points Plus card offers a modest sign-up bonus for new cardholders:

  • Earn a $100 statement credit after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.

The minimum required spend is relatively low compared to other cards, but still quite hefty considering there are other no-annual-fee cards with bigger sign-up bonuses and lower spending requirements.

Annual Statement Credits

In addition to its sign-up bonus, cardholders can earn up to $240 in additional statement credits each year after meeting offer requirements:

  • Receive a $20 statement credit on your AT&T Points Plus card statement after you spend $1,000 or more on purchases in a billing cycle,
  • Or receive a $10 statement credit after you spend $500–$999.99 in a billing cycle.

You must enroll your AT&T wireless account in paperless billing and AT&T AutoPay with your AT&T Points Plus card as the payment method to qualify for the statement credit offer.

Earning Rewards

The AT&T Points Plus card is a co-branded Citi card and earns points within the Citi ThankYou Rewards program. Here's how you earn rewards with the card:

  • 3X ThankYou Points at gas stations
  • 2X ThankYou Points at grocery stores, including grocery delivery services
  • 1X ThankYou Point on all other purchases

While the card offers above-average rewards rates for gas and groceries, it doesn't offer bonus points for AT&T purchases. Paying your monthly AT&T bill and new device purchases only net 1 point per dollar spent. Considering it's a co-branded card, it's surprising that cardholders don't earn a better rate for their spending with the company.

Redeeming Rewards

The AT&T Points Plus card earns ThankYou Points. The program offers several redemption options to redeem your points, including:

  • Gift cards
  • Travel
  • Shop with points
  • Statement credits
  • Cash back
  • Charitable donations
  • Point transfers to travel partners JetBlue TrueBlue, Choice Privileges or Wyndham Rewards

Citi partners with other travel loyalty programs, including several popular airlines. Unfortunately, the ability to transfer points to additional travel partners requires carrying another qualifying Citi credit card that earns ThankYou Points. However, having multiple cards that earn ThankYou Points could be beneficial since you can pool your points under the same ThankYou account.

Card Benefits and Perks

The AT&T Points Plus is light on card benefits, including brand perks with AT&T. The card only offers basic benefits that are standard in many rewards or cash-back credit cards. Here's what you can expect:

  • Fraud protection: As with many credit cards, holders of this card can enjoy $0 liability for unauthorized charges.
  • Free FICO® Score monitoring: Monitor your FICO Score for free online or through the Citi mobile app anytime.
  • Fraud Early Warning: Citi notifies you to validate any potentially fraudulent transactions.
  • Quick Lock: You can quickly lock your card if lost or stolen, which blocks new charges while allowing recurring charges to continue without disruption.
  • Citi Entertainment: With the AT&T Points Plus card, you receive special access to purchase tickets for exclusive events and experiences, concerts, sports, and other live entertainment.

Drawbacks

While the AT&T Points Plus card offers some value to select AT&T customers, it's not a great fit for everyone. Consider these potential disadvantages if you're interested in getting this card:

  • High spending threshold to earn statement credits: To earn the full $240 in statement credits annually, you must spend at least $12,000 on the card each year.
  • Foreign transaction fees: The card charges a 3% foreign transaction fee, making it a poor choice when traveling outside of the U.S. You should use a travel credit card instead if you're going abroad.
  • Lack of benefits: Outside of earning higher rewards in select categories and potential statement credits, the AT&T Points Plus card offers basic benefits that are pretty standard across most cards.
  • Low earning rates with AT&T: Spending with AT&T only nets 1 point per dollar spent.

Annual Fee

The AT&T Points Plus card has no annual fee.

Card issuers sometimes charge a yearly fee, called an annual fee, for access to a credit card and its benefits and perks. If you're considering a credit card with an annual fee, always weigh the card's potential value against the added yearly cost to ensure it's worth paying.

APR

The AT&T Points Plus card has a 21.24% - 29.24% (Variable) APR based on your creditworthiness. Interest rates for credit cards are typically stated as a yearly rate called the annual percentage rate or APR. APR is the yearly interest rate you would pay if you carried a balance on your card.

The card does not come with a 0% introductory APR offer.

Other Fees

If you frequently travel outside of the U.S., consider another card for purchases. The AT&T Points Plus card carries a 3% foreign transaction fee and is charged on all international purchases.

Like other cards, expect to pay fees for certain activities, including:

  • Balance transfers
  • Cash advances
  • Late payments
  • Returned payments

Recommended Credit Score

Citi doesn't disclose specific credit requirements for its card offerings. Card issuers may factor other information into their decision when approving card applications, including income, payment history, existing debt and other financial markers.

Having a good credit score improves your chances of approval for the AT&T Points Plus card and is a general requirement for many rewards credit cards. Within the FICO credit scoring model, this is a credit score range of 670 to 800.

Who Is the AT&T Points Plus® Card from Citi Good for?

The AT&T Points Plus card is a solid option for existing AT&T customers whose monthly budgets include considerable spending on fuel and groceries. Ideally, your monthly card spending should be at least $1,000 to take full advantage of the card's maximum statement credits. It's also a good option for AT&T customers who already have a Citi card that earns ThankYou Points in other spending categories. You'll maximize your rewards by pooling your points under the same ThankYou Rewards account.

If your monthly card spending is over $1,000, there are other rewards credit cards that can earn you better rewards rates overall and come with more valuable features and benefits.
