Earning and Redeeming Cash Back

  • Instacart purchases: 5% cash back
  • Travel booked directly through Chase: 5% cash back
  • Gas stations: 2% cash back
  • Restaurants: 2% cash back
  • Select streaming services: 2% cash back

The Instacart Mastercard offers consumers generous 5% cash back earnings per dollar on purchases at Instacart’s 300+ partner grocery and retail brands nationwide.

In addition to elevated earnings on Instacart services, card holders will earn 2% cash back per dollar at gas stations, restaurants and on select streaming services, and 1% back per dollar on every other purchase.

There is no cap on the amount of cash back you can earn in a year - the more you spend, the more you earn. Cardholders can either redeem their earnings as a monthly direct deposit, or apply their cash back rewards directly toward the outstanding balance of their credit card statement. And beginning Fall 2022, card members will be able to redeem cash back earnings to pay for Instacart orders directly within the Instacart app or online.

If you’re intrigued by the opportunity to use your rewards toward travel, consider using your Instacart earnings toward a fun trip. Instacart Mastercard cardholders will receive access to Chase’s dedicated travel portal as part of their cardholder benefits, so you can opt to use your cash back to pay off various Chase Travel Center purchases including flights, hotels, cruises and car rentals. If you prefer to earn cash back for your travel spend instead, cardholders can earn 5% cash back per dollar spent on travel purchased through the Chase Travel Center.

If you’re an Instacart aficionado, the Instacart Mastercard can be a solid addition to your wallet that will earn 5% cash back on every purchase as well as additional rewards on a slew of other household expenses, all without an annual fee.

However, people who rarely use Instacart may find more earning or redemption flexibility through other credit cards. If you make most of your everyday purchases through Amazon Prime or Target, for example, you can earn the same reward rate of 5% cash back with the Amazon Prime Visa or Target REDCard, both of which do not charge an annual fee.

If you don’t need a retailer co-branded credit card, the Chase Freedom Flex is a fantastic option that offers a flat 3 percent cash back at restaurants and drugstores and occasional bonuses on grocery store and gas station spending, all with no annual fee.
