Enjoy a one-time bonus of 75,000 miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening, equal to $750 in travel Dollar Equivalent: $1,350 (75,000 Capital One Rewards Miles * 0.018 base)

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card offers a lot of value to both beginner and expert travelers. The upfront bonus and high ongoing rewards rate aren’t easy to beat, making the card a solid option for a large audience. Where it really shines is with the flexibility of the redemption process, though. You can redeem miles to cover past travel expenses, book travel through Capital One or transfer miles to any of Capital One’s airline and hotel loyalty programs.

A Highly-Rewarding Annual Fee Card

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is among the best travel credit cards on the market. This rewards card offers an impressive one-time bonus for new cardholders and high, flat-rate rewards on every purchase you make. You’ll also get a lot of flexibility when it comes time to redeem your rewards, and you’ll get an assist with expedited airport screenings and immigration with TSA PreCheck and Global Entry, which is reimbursed via an application fee credit.

This flexible credit card is perfect for moderate to frequent travelers who enjoy simple but useful travel benefits. It’s more than suitable for individuals who don’t need access to luxury travel perks (or luxury card costs) but still enjoy access to extra benefits to enhance their travels.

Pros

  • Simple rewards and earning structure
  • Ability to earn transferable points to use with travel partners
  • Relatively modest $95 annual fee
  • Includes credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck®

Cons

  • Other travel cards offer higher rewards rates on certain spending categories

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card highlights include:

  • Application fee credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry
  • 24-hour travel assistance services
  • Rental car insurance
  • Access to exclusive Capital One culinary and entertainment experiences
  • No foreign transaction fees (Rates & Fees)

What Our Credit Card Experts Are Saying

“The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is my go-to card for everyday spending. It earns 2X miles on everything, which I use for things like online shopping and in-store retail purchases that usually don’t qualify for category bonuses on other cards. The annual fee is pretty much offset every year thanks to a combination of rewards earned and the Global Entry/TSA PreCheck application fee credit. I often use my Capital One miles for cheap domestic award flights through Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, which start at just 7,500 miles each way. “

Sign-Up Bonus

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card offers an impressive 75,000 bonus miles for new cardholders. Here’s how this one-time bonus works:

  • Enjoy a one-time bonus of 75,000 miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening, equal to $750 in travel
  • Your rewards do not expire as long as the account is open.
  • Existing or previous cardholders may not be eligible for the bonus.

The 75,000 bonus points are worth at least $750 in travel, according to our editor's bonus estimates, which stacks up nicely to the best travel bonuses currently available.

Earning Rewards

The card earns flat-rate Capital One Miles on every purchase you make, giving cardholders predictability and simplicity. It also earns bonus miles in specific travel-related categories.

Here's how rewards earning breaks down with the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card:

  • Unlimited 2X miles on every card purchase
  • Unlimited 5X miles on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel
  • Earn 5X miles on Capital One Entertainment purchases through 12/31/25

With its simple rewards structure, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is perfect for those who don’t want to keep track of complicated rewards with differing rewards rates for multiple spending categories. On the flip side, if you like the idea of maximizing your rewards with bonus points or bonus miles on everyday spending categories, this card might not be the best fit for you.

Additionally, this rewards card does not charge any foreign transaction fees for international purchases, which makes the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card ideal for non-U.S. travel.

Redemption Options

Here are ways to redeem Capital One miles earned with your Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.

  • Book travel: Book travel directly through Capital One's rewards portal using your miles. Options include flights, hotels, rental cars and other travel bookings.
  • Cover travel purchases: Redeem miles for a statement credit for eligible travel purchases made within the past 90 days.
  • Transfer miles: You can transfer your miles to one of over 15 travel transfer partners, including airline and hotel loyalty programs.
  • Statement credit: Redeem miles for a statement credit on your account balance.
  • Paper check: Receive a check in the mail.
  • Shopping: Shop online at Amazon.com using your Capital One miles.
  • Gift cards: Redeem miles for gift cards to select retailers.

Quick Tip

Keep in mind that not all redemption options provide the same value. With travel, for instance, you’ll get $500 in value from 50,000 miles. If you use those same miles to get cash back, though, you’ll get just $250. So before you use your rewards, make sure you know what you’re getting in return, so you don’t leave money on the table.

Card Benefits

A lot of travel cards at this tier don’t offer a ton of benefits. That's not the case with the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.

  • Cardholders receive an application fee credit of up to $120 for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry every four years. You must use your card to complete the application and pay the application fee. The credit will appear within two billing cycles.

With TSA PreCheck, you’ll get expedited airport screening at countless U.S. airports, which can make a huge difference. In contrast, Global Entry not only includes TSA PreCheck but also offers you expedited customs screening when returning to the U.S. from abroad.

  • The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card offers travel benefits for added security and protection when traveling.

  • Your card comes with 24/7 travel assistance services if you run into emergencies while traveling, like a lost or stolen card.

  • Eligible card purchases with a qualifying manufacturer's warranty receive up to one year of additional warranty protection.

Annual Fee

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card charges a $95 annual fee (Rates & Fees), which is standard with many top travel rewards credit cards that don’t offer luxury perks.

When it comes to travel credit cards, it can be really challenging to find a way to use your rewards in the way you want. Capital One offers flexible redemptions to fit a variety of needs.

Drawbacks

It’s hard to dislike the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. The travel rewards card offers an excellent welcome offer, great rewards and flexible redemption options for travel purchases. Like most credit cards, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card also has some drawbacks. As with any financial product, it’s important to compare multiple options to find the best fit for you.

  • No domestic airline partners: Capital One offers no domestic airline transfer partners. In contrast, Amex and Chase both partner with three domestic airlines and also offer more hotel partners.
  • No introductory APR offers: There is no 0% intro APR offers for purchases or balance transfers available with the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (Rates & Fees).
  • Few bonus categories: The flat 2X rewards rate is sure to make a lot of frequent travelers happy. But many other travel cards offer higher rewards rates on certain spending categories, which could allow you to maximize your rewards even more.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card vs. Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

On the surface, the sign-up bonuses may seem similar, but the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card's offering is worth 25% more if you use your points to book travel through Chase.

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card offers more consistent rewards earning, making it a good choice for individuals who prefer simplicity. But when it comes to redeeming your rewards, the Chase Ultimate Rewards® program is about as good as it gets. Not only do you get a 1:1 ratio with more valuable rewards programs, but you’ll also get more value on non-travel redemptions—cash back, for instance, will get you 1 cent per point instead of half that with the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.

Both travel-focused credit cards have a $95 annual fee, and neither charge a foreign transaction fee for international spending. On the perks side of things, Capital One’s TSA PreCheck/Global Entry benefit is missing from the Sapphire Preferred. But if you like the idea of trip protections like baggage delay insurance, trip cancellation/interruption insurance and more, the Chase Sapphire Preferred is a better bet.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card vs. Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card

Another popular travel rewards card to consider is the Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card. The card offers a decent sign-up bonus of 25,000 points after you spend $1,000 on your card in the first 90 days from account opening, which is worth $250 when redeemed as a statement credit toward travel and dining purchases.

Both cards earn flat-rate rewards for card spending. Bank of America® Preferred Rewards members can earn 25% to 75% more rewards, but doing so requires keeping a large combined balance between Bank of America and Merrill investment accounts.

Redemptions are easy with the Bank of America® Travel Rewards card. You can redeem points for statement credits to cover any travel and dining purchases. The Bank of America® Travel Rewards has no annual fee, so there's no added cost to factor in when determining the value you'll get from the card.

Who Is the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card Good for?

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card offers much value to beginner and expert travelers alike. This rewards card’s big upfront sign-up bonus and high ongoing rewards rate aren’t easy to beat, making it a solid option for a large audience. Similarly, with no foreign transaction fees, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is ideal for people who regularly make international purchases.

It's a solid choice if you prefer a simple rewards structure that doesn't require tracking spending in multiple categories. With that said, it's not necessarily the best card for experienced travelers who want to maximize every dollar spent to earn the most rewards. While the card offers several travel benefits, it's not the best choice for individuals looking for luxury travel perks. A premium travel rewards card or a cobranded airline card may be a better fit.

Recommended Credit Score

It's recommended that you have a good-to-excellent credit score to qualify for the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.

Card issuers define “excellent” differently, so you may be able to get approved for the credit card if you have a good credit score, which starts at a FICO® Score of 670 or above.

For Capital One, an excellent credit score means:

  • You never declared bankruptcy or defaulted on a loan.
  • You haven’t been more than 60 days late on any credit card, loan or medical bill in the last year.
  • You’ve had a loan or credit card for at least three years with a credit limit of $5,000 or more.

If you’re new to credit or you’ve made some missteps, it may be tough to qualify. Make sure to check your credit score using a service like Experian or Credit Karma before you apply for this credit card to determine how good your approval odds are.
