Have you ever done a Target “run” for one or two essential items and ended up checking out with a shopping cart (the large push kind, not a mere basket) full of Joanna Gaines’ latest home collection? You’re not alone, and this latest Target RedCard™ offer could save you $40 on your next Target shopping splurge — but you will need to apply by October 8, 2022.

Through this promo, Target is offering $40 off of a future qualifying purchase over $40 when approved for a credit or debit RedCard. When you apply for and are approved for the Target debit or credit card, you will be mailed your card along with the $40 off coupon; the coupon is not sent via email.

While you must apply and be approved by October 8, the coupon itself expires on November 7, 2022. Meaning: you need to plan on using this $40 credit within the next month to take advantage of this deal — which shouldn’t be an issue with Halloween and Thanksgiving just around the corner.

You can apply for the Target debit or credit card online or in-store. In addition to the savings, the Target Debit Card has benefits, such as 5% off of Target purchases, free shipping at, and more. The full Target ad can be viewed here.

How Often Is The Target $40 Deal Offered?

This offer comes up periodically and was last available in August 2022, so it appears to be a regular promotion that happens a few times per year. After using the initial $40 coupon, you could conceivably close the debit card and requalify for this promotion the next time it is available, as long as it has been at least 90 days since you last had the card. Therefore, it is possible to save again and again since Target has this promotion regularly. But, there could be downsides worth exploring before you decide to go in that direction. Once you’ve taken advantage of the $40 deal and seen how it works, why not share the news of the next future offer with someone who loves a Target run and could benefit from the $40 Target savings promo?

How Could Applying Affect My Credit Score?

The Target Debit Card has no annual fee, and opening a debit card does not result in a hard pull on your credit, and it does not show up on your credit report. Therefore, if you open multiple rewards cards a year and do not want a new application to affect your 5/24 score, the Target Debit Card is a great option.

The $40 off of a purchase of more than $40 coupon does not apply to all Target products and excludes the following brands and products:

Items sold & shipped by Target Plus™ Partners, alcohol, Apple products, Barbie camper and houses, Beats Fit Pro, Beats Flex, Beats Powerbeats Pro, Beats Studio Buds, Bose, Bullseye’s Playground, Cards Against Humanity, Casper, clinic & pharmacy, Cricut, dairy milk, DockATot, Dockers, Disney Ultimate Princess Castle, Do-a-Dot, DSLR cameras & lenses, Dyson, Facebook Oculus and Portal, face masks (Dolan, Sanctuary & Sugar Fix brands), Fisher Price Laugh n Learn, Fitbit, gift cards, Google, HALO Baby, Hasbro Games (Classic Monopoly, Connect Four, Jenga, Sorry, Trouble), Hatch Maternity, Hot Wheels Ultimate Garage, Honest Baby, HP Inc., Hudson Baby, Infant Optics, Instant Pot, JBL, Lamaze, LEGO, Levi’s Red Label, LG OLED TV, limited-time designer partnerships, Luvable Friends, Mega Bloks, mobile contracts, Motrin, Ninja, Nintendo hardware and Switch games, Polder, Peg Perego, Philips Avent, Plan B, power shave, power dental, prepaid cards, PlayStation consoles and accessories, Revival, Samsung TVs, Shark, simplehuman, Sonos, Sony Electronics, Take Action, Target Optical, Tempur-Sealy, Trading Cards, Tylenol pain relief, Tylenol PM, Ulta Beauty at Target Brands, Unlocked phones, Vera Bradley handbags, Weber, What Do You Meme?, and Zoe Doll.
