Earn a $40 Shopping Credit at Target by Getting a Target Debit Card

Big savings await when you add a Target debit card to your wallet.

From now until August 27, 2022, you can get $40 off through a limited-time new cardholder offer with the Target RedCard™.

Target is currently offering $40 off of a future qualifying purchase over $40 when approved for a credit or debit Target RedCard. While store credit cards’ benefits are not usually as profitable as other credit cards that can earn perks like free travel and upgrades, the Target debit card (not the credit card) is worth looking into getting.

The Target debit card has no annual fee, and it does not result in a hard pull on your credit report. Therefore, if you open multiple credit cards a year and do not want a new application to affect your 5/24 score, the Target debit card checks that box.

The application for the Target debit card can be completed online at or in-store.

When you apply and are approved for the Target debit card, you are mailed a coupon code for $40 off of a purchase over $40. The coupon expires on September 17, 2022.

Target RedCard

In addition to the $40 savings, the Target RedCard debit card comes with benefits such as 5% off of Target purchases, free shipping at, and more.

Plus, after using the initial $40 coupon, you could conceivably close the debit card and requalify for this promotion the next time it is available, as long as it has been at least 90 days since you last had the card. Therefore, it is possible to save again and again since Target has this promotion regularly.

The $40 off of $40+ purchase coupon does not apply to all Target products and excludes the following brands and products:

Items sold & shipped by Target Plus™ Partners, alcohol, Apple products, Barbie camper and houses, Beats Fit Pro, Beats Flex, Beats Powerbeats Pro, Beats Studio Buds, Bose, Bullseye’s Playground, Cards Against Humanity, Casper, clinic & pharmacy, Cricut, dairy milk, DockATot, Dockers, Disney Ultimate Princess Castle, Do-a-Dot, DSLR cameras & lenses, Dyson, Facebook Oculus and Portal, face masks (Dolan, Sanctuary & Sugar Fix brands), Fisher Price Laugh n Learn, Fitbit, gift cards, Google, HALO Baby, Hasbro Games (Classic Monopoly, Connect Four, Jenga, Sorry, Trouble), Hatch Maternity, Hot Wheels Ultimate Garage, Honest Baby, HP Inc., Hudson Baby, Infant Optics, Instant Pot, JBL, Lamaze, LEGO, Levi’s Red Label, LG OLED TV, limited-time designer partnerships, Luvable Friends, Mega Bloks, mobile contracts, Monica and Andy, Motrin, Ninja, Nintendo hardware and Switch games, Polder, Peg Perego, Philips Avent, Plan B, power shave, power dental, prepaid cards, PlayStation consoles and accessories, Q by Quincy Mae, Revival, Samsung TVs, Shark, simplehuman, Sonos, Sony Electronics, Take Action, Target Optical, Tempur-Sealy, Touched by Nature, Trading Cards, Tylenol pain relief, Tylenol PM, Ulta Beauty at Target Brands, Unlocked phones, Vera Bradley handbags, Weber, What Do You Meme?, Xbox consoles and accessories, and Zoe Doll.
