Citigold® Checking Account Bonus

On its own, the Citigold® Checking Account offers enough value that it could easily be worth moving some of your wealth over to Citi. But through July 8, 2024, the bank is also offering a sign-up bonus when you open an account and meet deposit requirements.

More specifically, you can earn a cash bonus ranging from $200 up to $2,000, depending on how much you deposit. Here's how it breaks down:

Citigold® Checking Account Bonus Tiers

Deposit: $10,000 – $29,999

Bonus Cash: $200

Deposit: $30,000 – $74,999

Bonus Cash: $500

Deposit: $75,000 – $199,999

Bonus Cash: $1,000

Deposit: $200,000 – $299,999

Bonus Cash: $1,500

Deposit: $300,000 or more

Bonus Cash: $2,000

To get your bonus on the Citigold® banking package, you'll need to deposit new-to-Citi funds into your new account within 20 calendar days of opening it (your account balance on the 20th day determines your maximum eligible cash bonus). Then, you'll need to maintain that amount in the account for an additional 60 days from the 21st day after account opening.

If you need to withdraw some money, be sure to keep at least $10,000 in the account to earn the lowest bonus amount, as the bonus changes if your balance falls to a lower tier at any point during the maintenance period. Your bonus will post within 30 calendar days after you meet the requirements.

Also, note that you'll need to maintain a combined average monthly balance of $200,000 or more in eligible linked Citi deposit, investment and retirement accounts in order to open and keep the Citigold® Checking Account.

About the Citigold® Account Package

Citi offers an impressive set of benefits with its Citigold® account. In addition to banking perks, you'll also get freebies, discounts and other benefits with a number of other Citi products and services.

Here's everything you need to know about the Citigold® account package.

Fees and Interest

There's no monthly service fee associated with the Citigold® account. In fact, the account offers a break on many fees that are common among bank accounts:

  • You'll get unlimited ATM fee refunds at non-Citi ATMs worldwide.
  • Fees for standard checkbook orders, stop payments, overdrafts, incoming wire transfers and money orders will be waived.
  • You won't pay a fee on domestic and international wire transfers to another eligible Citi account when you use the Citibank® Global Transfers service.
  • You won't be charged a foreign transaction fee when you use your debit card abroad.
  • Have foreign currency sent to you via World Wallet with no delivery fee.

You can add a Citi® Accelerate High-Yield Savings Account to your relationship with the bank and receive a strong APY on your savings account balance.

Other Banking Features

Banks typically limit how much of your balance you can access via debit card purchases and ATM withdrawals. With the Citigold® account package, you'll get higher limits than what you might get with other Citi accounts.

The limit for ATM and debit card cash withdrawals is $2,000 per day, and the limit for debit card purchases is $10,000 per day.

This Citi account doesn't have a minimum balance or direct deposit requirement in the account itself, but you do need to have the $200,000 minimum balance in your eligible linked Citi accounts to keep it open.

You'll also get a dedicated customer service line for Citigold® account customers.

Wealth Management Benefits

If you have hundreds of thousands of dollars to manage, the Citigold® account package includes access to Citi Personal Wealth Management. The platform provides you with standard investment options, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds and options, but also allows you to invest in alternative options, such as hedge funds, private equity and more.

You'll also have access to a Citi Wealth Advisor, who can assist you with developing a strategy for your financial plan, provide you with recommendations, track your progress and more.

Borrowing Benefits

As a Citigold® account member, you'll qualify for exclusive discounts on Citi mortgage loans, home equity loans, personal loans and personal lines of credit.

Citi doesn't disclose the discounts publicly, though, so you'll need to speak with your Citigold® Relationship Manager after you open your account to get more information about how much you can save.

It's also important to note that while Citi includes home equity loans and lines of credit in its Citigold® benefits, the bank is not currently taking new applications for home equity products. Check with your Citigold® Relationship Manager to get more information about when those will be available again.

Travel Benefits

With your premium Citi account package, you'll get special perks when you're abroad. In addition to the waived foreign transaction fees and refunds on non-Citi ATM fees, you'll also get access to more than 100 lounges in Citi properties around the world. You can search for brick-and-mortar branches using the bank's location finder.

You can also utilize the bank's concierge service to help you book reservations, tickets and vacations, and get next-business-day delivery of foreign currencies before you travel.

If you experience an eligible emergency while you're on an international trip, Citi can provide you with up to $10,000 in cash per day from your available balance.

Lifestyle Benefits

As a Citigold® member, you'll get access to several lifestyle perks. Benefits include:

  • Educational events
  • Private dinners with top chefs
  • VIP access at music, theater and entertainment events
  • Citigold® exclusive access to sporting events, including opportunities to meet notable sports personalities and get discounted tickets
  • Complimentary access or discounted tickets to a select group of museums and performing arts organizations
  • A complimentary one-year Citi Bike membership, which typically costs $185 annually

Other Citi Bank Accounts

If you're interested in the Citigold® Checking Account, but you don't have enough funds, or you simply want to compare, here are some other Citi accounts (both checking and savings) that might be worth considering.

Citi ElevateSM Account Package

This option won't charge you a fee when you use a non-Citi ATM and will even reimburse you for third-party ATM fees with no limit.

There is a monthly fee of $15, but Citi will waive it if you keep a monthly balance of $5,000 or more in your checking account, on average.

Citi Access Account Package

The Citi Access account package is the most affordable one, with a $10 monthly service fee — you can get it waived with an average combined balance of $1,500 each month in eligible linked accounts, or if you make at least one qualifying direct deposit or bill payment each statement period.

There aren't a lot of benefits with this account, but it does waive overdraft fees. You won't get paper checks, though, so keep that in mind if you use those somewhat regularly.

Citi Basic Banking Package

If you want a basic checking account with paper checks, this one is a good alternative to the Citi Access account package. There are also more opportunities to get a break on the account's $12 monthly fee.

The bank won’t charge you if you meet one of the following requirements:

  • Maintain an average combined monthly balance of $1,500 in eligible linked accounts.
  • Make at least one qualifying direct deposit or bill payment per statement period.
  • The first-listed account owner is 62 or older.
  • It's a joint account with a minor.

Finally, there's no fee from Citi on non-Citi ATM withdrawals if the first-listed account owner is 62 years or older.

Citibank® Account Package

According to Citi, this option is a full-service checking account, though the bank doesn't highlight a lot of features on its website. The biggest benefit is that there's no ATM fee on non-Citi ATM withdrawals, this account package offers some more robust benefits than other standard Citi checking accounts.

That said, you'll need to have an average combined monthly balance of $10,000 or more across eligible linked deposit, retirement and investment accounts to get that perk. That's also the requirement to get the account's $25 monthly maintenance fee waived.

And the limited-time signup bonus further incentivizes high-net-worth customers to consider this account. The account has a monthly fee, but it can be waived if you maintain a high enough balance.

With this option, you'll enjoy no Citi fees on third-party ATM withdrawals, preferring pricing and interest rates on select products and services, access to Citi Priority Advisors, investment guidance and resources through Citi Private Wealth Management and various travel benefits.

To get the account's $30 monthly fee waived, you'll need a combined average monthly balance of $30,000 across eligible linked Citi accounts.

Citigold® Private Client

If you have enough money to maintain $1,000,000 or more in average combined monthly balances across eligible Citi accounts, you can get the Citigold® Private Client Package.

This account is the most exclusive that Citi has to offer, and its premium perks go above and beyond what you'd get with a standard Citigold® account. There's no monthly fee, but you'll lose your account if you can't maintain the minimum balance requirement.

Is the Citigold® Account Package Right for You?

If you're looking for a premium account for all of your banking and wealth management needs, Citigold® can be a solid choice. Even if you just want to try it out for a little while, now is a good time to apply and earn the account's sign-up bonus.

The account offers a lot of perks, and while the interest rates on it and other Citi checking accounts are low, you can get a solid one on the bank's savings account.
